Tom Rubens holds a B.A. Honours Degree in English Language and Literature, and an M.A. in Modern British and American Literature. For most of his working life, he has taught English (Language and Literature) at further education level, as a college lecturer and a private tutor; but he has also, to a smaller extent, lectured in higher education. His work has mainly been in this country, but also, for periods, abroad.
In addition to teaching, Tom was for some years employed in local government in London, working in libraries and social services. For many years, he has been active in community and social affairs. His principal aims have been to improve the environment and to create more equality in the economic and social-opportunity senses. These objectives are reflected in a good deal of his writing. He is a member of the Conway Hall Ethical Society, the national People’s Assembly, Global Justice Now, Greenpeace, and an organisation which helps homeless people in north London.
